PCC: HAPPY 30TH BIRTHDAY PATRICK!

thepoisoncontrolcenter:

HAPPY 30TH BIRTHDAY PATRICK!

What a milestone you have reached, and look at all the things you’ve accomplished: You’ve played all sorts of sports. You’ve learned to make some amazing music.  You’ve ran a record label and recording studio.  You’ve brought joy to thousands of children in Indiana.  You’ve helped the troubled youth in Iowa.  You are surrounded by a wonderful family and countless friends and have an amazing wife, and four dudes who seem to have nothing better to do than ride around the country with you in your beat-up van playing rock & roll music!  You are the most wonderful person to be around and you make this world a wonderful place to be.  In your own words:  YOU RULE DA SCHOOL!

with love from your bros,

David, Devin, Joe, and Donald

PCC: AUGUST 26 – BEAT KITCHEN, CHICAGO, IL [SHOW #68]

thepoisoncontrolcenter:

AUGUST 26 – BEAT KITCHEN, CHICAGO, IL [SHOW #68]

Day 78.  18,988 miles.  “I’ve now gotten to drive by my two favorite major league ballparks in the past week: Fenway Park and Wrigley Field,” Patrick said as we were circling around the Chicago landmark at 3am.  We had just left the Pick Me Up café on Clark St where we were sharing a late night meal with a few Chicago friends and our booking agent, Shawn Krueger.  We had just played a bombastic show at Chicago’s Beat Kitchen, one of the best-sounding clubs in Chicago, in our opinion, perhaps due to the skilled hands of the head sound engineer, Tom.  We shared the stage with Chris, Eric, Kim and Paul, our friends in the Quad-Cities band, Chrash.  Eric and Chris were always popping in and out of the studio last year while we were recording Sad Sour Future, so they had a rare insight to the creation of many of the new songs.  Also playing that night was the band Holyoke, whose members hail from Minneapolis, Milwaukee and Chicago.

We arrived early at the club that evening, so we ordered some sandwiches from the food menu and played a game of Euchre.  Midway through the game, Shawn totally surprised us when he strode up to the table, unannounced and looking quite road-beaten.  We all shouted upon his appearance and jumped up to give him hugs.  We sat around visiting and catching up over a beer while sneaking glances at the Twins and White Sox ballgames on the bar’s TVs.  We last parted ways with Shawn in Pittsburg during the first week of this tour back in June, which now seems like an eternity ago.  Outside we met up with our friend and ever-loyal PCC show attendee Laura Smith and her boyfriend Michael.  And soon after my cousin Susie and her newlywed husband Chris arrived, and we all visited on the sidewalk patio before the show.

Driving away from Wrigley field, we decided to just go to Dekalb and crash there for the day, instead of bumming around the streets of Chicago.  We rolled into the town around 4am and hopped from Hotel to Hotel searching for the best bargain.  When none of them would check us in at such and early hour, we pulled into the empty lot behind the Super 8 and slept in the van for a few hours.

The jam in the van:  Built To Spill There Is No Enemy, R.E.M. Chronic Town, Ennio Morricone In Love, The Wedding Present George Best Plus, Stereolab Margerine Eclipse, Bob Dylan Nashville Skyline,

The word we heard: “Be careful what you wish for” –Shawn Krueger

The games in the frames:  Twins vs. Rangers / White Sox vs. Orioles

Sound Tech we respect:  Tom

Sticks, strings and broken things:  Devin – 1 D string

The fill of the bill:  Chrash / Holyoke

Patrick Chi-town is your dry town

Monument / Being Gone / Pacific Sunrise / Cognac Dreams / Friends In The Band / Cemetery Glow / Don’t Go / A Salty Salute / Give It A Try / When The World Sleeps
